About App Icon Generator

The App Icon Generator turns one square image into the complete icon sets the Apple App Store and Google Play require — all in your browser. It exports a drop-in Xcode AppIcon.appiconset (every iPhone and iPad size plus the 1024x1024 App Store icon) with a matching Contents.json, the Google Play 512x512 listing icon, legacy Android launcher icons at every mipmap density, round variants, and a full adaptive icon (a foreground kept inside the 66% safe zone, a background colour, and the anydpi-v26 XML). iOS icons are rendered fully opaque because Apple forbids transparency. Nothing is uploaded — every size is drawn on a canvas on your device and zipped locally.

How to use App Icon Generator

  1. Drop in a square source image — ideally 1024x1024 or larger so nothing has to be upscaled (PNG, JPG, WebP or SVG).
  2. Choose your platforms: iOS (Xcode appiconset + the 1024 App Store icon), Android (adaptive + mipmap launcher icons + the 512 Play icon), or both.
  3. Pick a background colour — iOS icons cannot be transparent, so it fills behind your art and also becomes the Android adaptive background; add padding to inset the art from the edges.
  4. Check the preview tiles (iOS squircle, Android round, Android square) to see how each store will mask your icon.
  5. Click Download all for a .zip, or grab just the App Store 1024 or Play 512 with one tap.
  6. Drop AppIcon.appiconset into Xcode's Assets, and copy android/res/* into app/src/main/res — the README inside the zip has the exact steps.

Frequently asked questions

What sizes does it generate for the App Store?
Every size Xcode's AppIcon set uses — 20, 29, 40, 58, 60, 76, 80, 87, 120, 152, 167 and 180px for iPhone and iPad, plus the 1024x1024 App Store marketing icon — bundled in an AppIcon.appiconset folder with a Contents.json, so you can drag it straight into Xcode.
Does it make Android adaptive icons?
Yes. It outputs the adaptive foreground at every mipmap density (with your art held inside the 66% safe zone so it is not clipped), a background colour resource, and the mipmap-anydpi-v26/ic_launcher.xml that ties them together — plus legacy square and round launcher icons and the 512x512 Play Store icon.
Why does my icon need a background colour?
The App Store requires fully opaque icons; transparency is rejected. The background fills behind any transparent areas of your art for the iOS set, and the same colour becomes your Android adaptive icon's background layer. If your source already fills the square, you will never see it.
What size should my source image be?
Use a square image at least 1024x1024px (the App Store icon size). Anything smaller is upscaled and can look soft. PNG, JPG, WebP and SVG are all accepted.
Is my image uploaded anywhere?
No. Every icon is rendered on a canvas in your browser and zipped locally with no server involved — your artwork never leaves your device, and there is no signup or watermark.
How do I install the generated icons?
For iOS, delete the existing AppIcon set in Xcode's Assets.xcassets and drag in the AppIcon.appiconset folder. For Android, copy the android/res/* folders into app/src/main/res. The included README.txt spells out both.
