About PDF Watermark & Page Numbers
PDF Watermark & Page Numbers (pdf-stamp) is a free, browser-based tool that stamps a diagonal text watermark and/or page numbers onto an existing PDF. You drop in a PDF, type watermark text like "CONFIDENTIAL" and/or turn on page numbering, and download a new "-stamped.pdf" with the marks burned onto every page. It runs entirely in your browser using pdf-lib (drawing 45°-rotated bold Helvetica for the watermark and Helvetica for the numbers), so your file is never uploaded and there is no signup.
How to use PDF Watermark & Page Numbers
- Drop a PDF onto the upload area, or click to browse — the tool shows how many pages loaded.
- In the Watermark field, type the diagonal text you want (e.g. CONFIDENTIAL); leave it blank to skip the watermark.
- If you added a watermark, fine-tune it with the Opacity slider (3–60%) and the Size slider (20–120pt).
- Toggle on 'Add page numbers' if you want them, then pick a Format (Page 1 of N, 1 / N, Page 1, or just 1) and a Position (bottom center/right/left or top right).
- Set 'Start numbering at' if your first page shouldn't be 1 — the hint previews exactly what the first stamped page will read.
- Click 'Stamp & download PDF' to save the marked file as <name>-stamped.pdf.
Frequently asked questions
- Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
- No. The PDF is read and stamped entirely in your browser with pdf-lib, and the result is saved locally on your device — the file never leaves the tab and nothing is uploaded.
- Is it free and do I need an account?
- Yes, it's completely free with no signup, account, or added watermark of our own — only the watermark text you choose is stamped.
- Can I add only page numbers, or only a watermark?
- Yes. Leave the watermark field blank to add page numbers alone, or leave 'Add page numbers' off to apply just the diagonal watermark — you can also do both at once.
- What page-number formats and positions are available?
- Four formats — 'Page 1 of N', '1 / N', 'Page 1', or just '1' — and four positions: bottom center, bottom right, bottom left, or top right.
- Can I start numbering from a number other than 1?
- Yes. Use 'Start numbering at' to set the first page's number (for example, start at 5), and the on-screen hint previews exactly what the first stamped page will show.
- How is the watermark drawn and can I control how it looks?
- The watermark is bold text rotated 45° diagonally across every page. You control its opacity (3% to 60%) and its size (20pt to 120pt) with sliders.
