Readability Analyzer is a free, browser-based writing checker that scores any text you paste with the Flesch Reading Ease (0–100) and Flesch–Kincaid Grade formulas, then estimates reading time and flags overly long sentences and possible passive voice. It runs entirely in your browser using plain, deterministic math (no AI model, no API) — your text is never uploaded and there is no signup. How to use Readability Analyzer

1. Paste or type your text into the 'Your text' box — an article, email, essay, or any prose.
2. Or click the 'Sample' button to load example text and see how scoring works.
3. Read the live results: Flesch Reading Ease, Flesch–Kincaid grade level, reading time, word/sentence counts, average words per sentence, syllables per word, and passive-voice hints.
4. Scroll to the 'long sentences' panel to see every sentence over 25 words, sorted longest-first, so you know what to split.
5. Edit your text in place — every metric recalculates instantly as you type — until the ease score and flags look good.

Which readability scores does it calculate?

It computes the standard Flesch Reading Ease (0–100, higher is easier) and the Flesch–Kincaid Grade Level (a US school-grade number), plus word count, sentence count, average words per sentence, syllables per word, and an estimated reading time at about 225 words per minute.

How does it flag long sentences?

Any sentence over 25 words is listed in its own panel, sorted longest-first (up to 8 shown), with its word count, so you can spot and split the hardest sentences to read.

How accurate is the passive-voice count?

Passive hints are a rough heuristic — it matches a be-verb followed by a word ending in -ed/-en/-t, so it can flag adjectives and other non-passive phrases ("is great", "is red"). Treat the number as a prompt to review the matches, not an exact passive-voice count.

Is there a limit on how much text I can paste?

Yes. Because the analysis runs on every keystroke, very large pastes (multiple MB) are capped — past that limit you'll see a warning and scoring pauses, so it's best suited to articles, emails, and documents rather than entire books at once.
