About Text Summarizer

Text Summarizer is a free, browser-based tool that condenses a pasted article, document, or thread down to a handful of key sentences. Its built-in summary uses extractive key-sentence selection (sentence splitting plus keyword scoring) and runs instantly as you type — no AI, no network, and it works on any device. If you have a local AI model connected, you can optionally generate a smoother abstractive summary too. Everything runs locally in your browser, nothing is uploaded, and there is no signup.

How to use Text Summarizer

  1. Paste an article, document, or thread into the 'Your text' box — or click 'Sample' to load example text.
  2. Drag the 'Length' slider to pick how many sentences the summary should be, from 1 to 5.
  3. Read the 'Built-in summary (no AI)' that appears live below as you type — it updates on every change.
  4. Optionally, if a local AI model is connected, click 'Summarize with AI' to also generate a smoother abstractive version.
  5. Click 'Copy' next to either summary to put it on your clipboard.

Is my text uploaded to a server?
No. The built-in key-sentence summary runs entirely in your browser with no network calls, and the optional AI summary uses a local model on your own machine — your text is never uploaded.
Is it free and do I need an account?
Yes, it's completely free with no signup, account, or watermark.
Do I need AI to use it?
No. The default built-in summary is extractive (it selects the most important existing sentences) and needs no AI at all. The 'Summarize with AI' button only appears if you have a local model connected, and it adds an optional abstractive summary.
How do I control the summary length?
Use the Length slider to choose between 1 and 5 sentences. The built-in summary re-runs immediately, and that count is also passed to the AI model when you summarize with AI.
What's the difference between the built-in and AI summaries?
The built-in summary extracts and reorders the most relevant original sentences, so it's fast and never paraphrases. The AI summary rewrites the content into new sentences (abstractive), which can read more smoothly but requires a connected local model.
Are there any size limits or gotchas with long text?
The built-in extractive summary always uses the entire text. The AI summary, however, is given only the first 6,000 characters to fit a small model's context window, and you'll see a warning when your input is truncated — in those cases the built-in summary is often just as good and is never cut off.
