EXIF Viewer & Stripper is a free, browser-based tool that reveals the hidden metadata embedded in a photo — camera make and model, exposure settings, timestamps, and GPS coordinates — then removes all of it by re-encoding the image to a clean copy. It flags any photo whose GPS tags expose where it was taken, so you can scrub location data before sharing. Everything runs locally in your browser: the photo is never uploaded, and there's no signup.

How to use EXIF Viewer & Stripper

1. Choose 'Single (inspect + strip)' to examine one photo, or 'Batch → ZIP' to clean up to 50 images at once.
2. Drag and drop a photo onto the drop zone, or click to choose a JPEG, PNG, HEIC, TIFF, or WebP file (up to 50 MB each).
3. Review the parsed metadata grouped by Camera, Exposure, Date, Image, Author, and Location — watch for the red GPS warning if the photo reveals its location.
4. Optionally set the JPEG quality slider (50–100%, default 95%); PNG output is always lossless.
5. Click 'Strip all metadata & download' to re-encode the pixels to a clean copy with all EXIF, GPS, color profiles, and XMP/IPTC streams removed.
6. In batch mode, click 'Strip all & download (.zip)' to get every cleaned image packaged into a single ZIP.

Are my photos uploaded to a server?

No. Both the metadata reading (via the exifr library) and the stripping (a canvas re-encode) happen entirely in your browser. The photo never leaves your device and nothing is sent to any server.

Is it free and do I need an account?

Yes, it's completely free with no signup or account required. Open the page and start dropping photos.

Which image formats does it support?

You can inspect metadata in JPEG, PNG, HEIC, TIFF, and WebP files. When stripping, PNG stays PNG and JPEG stays JPEG; all other formats are re-encoded as JPEG.

How does stripping actually remove the metadata?

It redraws the image's pixels onto a fresh HTML canvas and exports that. The canvas copies pixels only — no metadata streams — so the output carries no EXIF, GPS, ICC color profile, XMP, IPTC, or embedded thumbnail by design.

Will stripping reduce my image quality or size?

Full dimensions and visual quality are preserved. PNG output is lossless; for JPEG you control a quality slider from 50% to 100% (default 95%). The file is usually smaller afterward because the metadata is gone.

Are there any limits?

Each file can be up to 50 MB, and batch mode processes up to 50 photos per ZIP. Note that animated GIF or WebP files keep only their first frame after re-encoding, so the animation is lost.
