Thumbnail Maker & Editor is a free, browser-based design tool for building YouTube and social thumbnails: drop in an image or grab a frame from a video, then layer bold text, shapes, arrows, logos, and emoji on top and export a 1280-pixel image. Add gradient or neon-glow text in 40+ self-hosted fonts, remove an overlay's background with on-device AI, and preview how the result reads in the YouTube feed. Everything runs in your browser, so no file is ever uploaded and there is no signup.

How to use Thumbnail Maker & Editor

  1. Pick a base: upload an image (PNG, JPG, etc., up to 50 MB), or switch to Video, scrub the clip, and tap 'Capture this frame' to use a still.
  2. Add text from the toolbar and start typing, then apply a one-tap style preset (YouTuber, Neon, Gradient, Comic, Label) or set your own font, color, gradient, outline, and glow.
  3. Layer on shapes, arrows, lines, logo/image overlays, and emoji; drag to position, use the corner handles to resize and rotate, and remove an overlay's background on-device if needed.
  4. Choose an aspect ratio (Source, 16:9, 9:16, or 1:1) and toggle safe zones to keep key text clear of the title-safe area, mobile crop, and duration badge.
  5. Optionally switch to 'Preview in YouTube' with a mock title and channel name to check how it reads in the feed.
  6. Set the format (PNG or JPG) and scale (1x or 2x) and click Export to download the finished thumbnail.

Yes. Switch to the Video tab, choose an MP4 (H.264) or WebM (VP9) clip up to 500 MB and 4096px per side, scrub to the moment you want, and capture that frame as your base.
