Metronome and Instrument Tuner is a free, browser-based tool with two modes: a click-track metronome and a chromatic instrument tuner. The metronome plays accented Web Audio clicks from 40 to 240 BPM with a 2, 3, 4, or 6 beats-per-bar accent; the tuner uses your microphone and the pitchy pitch-detection library to show the live note or string, exact frequency in Hz, and cents sharp or flat, with presets for guitar, bass, ukulele, violin, viola, cello, mandolin, and banjo. Everything runs locally in your browser, the sound is generated and the mic audio is analysed entirely on your device, nothing is uploaded, and there is no signup.

How to use Metronome & Instrument Tuner

  1. Pick a mode at the top with the Metronome or Tuner toggle.
  2. For the metronome, drag the Tempo slider from 40 to 240 BPM, choose 2, 3, 4, or 6 beats per bar, then press Start and Stop.
  3. For the tuner, choose an Instrument and where offered a Tuning such as Standard EADGBE or Drop D.
  4. Set the A4 Calibration slider (415 to 446 Hz) or a 432/440/442/443 preset, and adjust Sensitivity.
  5. Press Start tuner, allow mic access, and play a note to see the note, frequency, and cents sharp or flat.
  6. Tap a string chip or Play to hear the reference pitch, then press Stop listening when done.

No. The metronome sound is generated and the mic is analysed entirely in your browser using the Web Audio API and the pitchy library, so no audio leaves the tab.

Which instruments and tunings does the tuner support?
Chromatic mode plus presets for guitar (Standard, Drop D, DADGAD, Open G, half-step down), bass (4- and 5-string), ukulele, violin, viola, cello, mandolin, and banjo, each with tappable per-string targets you can hear.
Can I change the A4 reference pitch?
Yes. The Calibration slider ranges from 415 to 446 Hz with quick presets for 432, 440, 442, and 443 Hz, so you can match an orchestra, a baroque set, or a 432 Hz tuning.
What do the cents and sharp or flat labels mean?
It shows how many cents your note is from the target and treats it as in tune within 5 cents. Positive means sharp (loosen the string) and negative means flat (tighten it), with a 50-cents meter.
Why does the tuner need microphone permission?
It listens to your instrument to detect pitch, so the browser prompts for mic access on Start tuner. If access is denied it shows an error; the metronome works without a microphone.
